The NEW DAVID BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST

New Dvaid Baptist Church, Formerly the David Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, was founded August 27, 1950, by the Rev. William B. Davis and ten chartered members. It was first located in the 900 block of West Lexington Street. After one year, the church relocated to Caroline and Jefferson Streets, where it remained for two years. David Memorial was once again relocated to 925 North Bond Street, where it purchased a building with a seating capacity of fifty. It was paid for in 1957 by a membership of forty-five persons. David experienced rapid growth, leading them to purchase an abandoned movie theater in the 1400 block of North Milton Avenue. The theater could had a seating capacity of five hundred.

In the last years of the founding pastor, services were conducted by his fifteen-year old grandson, Rev. Earl Nathan Woodard. Pastor Davis preached his last sermon on Christmas Day 1977. His grandson was elected the 2nd Pastor of New David. This made Pastor Woodard one of the youngest pastors in American Baptist Church history. In 1977, the church had a membership of twenty-five active members. Under the leader of Pastor Woodard, over fifteen hundred persons have united with the church, an eight thousand-square foot fellowship hall was purchased, ten new auxiliary ministries were formed, five choirs have been organized, special addiction recovery, men and women ministries established and four person have answered the call to ministry. Today, the New Baptist Church of Christ, a church highly rewarded for its ministry within the inner city of Baltimore, is composed of 300 families, that is, 1,000+ members. Plans are now in effect to develop a larger worship center, administrative and educational facilities to house one of the fastest growth rates of any church within the Baltimore metropolitan area.
